Bespoke Workshop - Hand-Bound Journal (2 people)

    Create your own hand-bound pamphlet-style journal with a custom cover. You and a friend will learn how to typeset and print your name(s) or guiding word on the cover using our collection of metal type, fold paper for the pages, and bind your journal.

    I provide quality patterned card stock for the covers and Mohawk Superfine 80lb/120g Text white paper for the pages. Choose letterpress printing (black or white ink) or hot foil stamping (shiny gold, silver, or colored foil). With these techniques, you’ll feel the impression created by the type you set!

    For this workshop, both people will print the same word/phrase on their covers, but you'll each leave with your own pamphlet-bound journal.

    Add-On Options
    Add-ons can be added at scheduling time but must be paid in full no later than two weeks before scheduled date. Additional time (approximately 1 hour depending on selections) will be taken into consideration when scheduling.

     

    Corner Rounding - $15

    Round the corners of your journal for a polished, professional finish.

    Bookmark - $25

    Create your own one-of-a-kind bookmark using letterpress print remnants and printmaking embellishment techniques.

    Extra Journal - $75 Make a second journal for yourself or to give as a gift. Includes additional workshop time (approximately 1 hour).

    Take-Home Kit - $25

    Make another journal on your own time. Includes pre-cut cover, pages, hole-punching guide, and binding twine.

     

    How to schedule
    1. Purchase the workshop. In the notes section at purchase, you can indicate any add-ons you're interested in as well as dates you're interested in scheduling.
    2. Within 48 hours of placing your order, we'll reach out to set up a consultation time to schedule and discuss a plan for your workshop.
    3. If you have any add-ons, we'll send you a separate invoice. Workshop and add-ons must all be paid no later than 2 weeks in advance of scheduled workshop date.

    We request 4 weeks notice to allow for Theresa to plan her schedule accordingly. We cannot promise your exact date, but will do our best to work with you if you have a special occasion to celebrate together.

    This workshop is designed for adults. Participants ages 13-17 may attend with advance permission and must be accompanied by a responsible adult who remains present throughout the workshop. Please email theresa@opentobeing.com before booking if you'd like to bring a teen participant. 

    Please note that operating the letterpress requires standing for extended periods and using a foot treadle (similar to a sewing machine pedal) to run the press.

    Both participants must sign a safety waiver onsite acknowledging the use of heavy machinery, sharp tools, and materials that require careful handling. All equipment will be used under direct supervision.

    We may photograph during the workshop for promotional use on our website and social media. You'll have the option to consent or decline via a photo release form at the start of the workshop.
