Planning a special event or occasion? It All Starts With a Chat
First things first – we'll sit down (virtually or in person) and talk about your vision. What's the vibe you're going for? Elegant and classic? Modern and minimalist? Fun and quirky? Are the certain colors or designs you would like to use? Whether it's coasters, art prints, or branded materials, I want to understand what feels right for you and your event.
Designing Your Dream Piece
Once I get a sense of your style, I'll create some 2-3 initial design concepts. This is where we play around with typography, layout, and those lovely little details that make letterpress shine. Think debossed monograms, elegant flourishes, or vintage image blocks that give the right impression. For letterpress pieces, I create designs digitally as well as with type and blocks.
I designed a custom print for the Second Annual Refashion Show, "on paper" with vintage type and image blocks.
Test Prints
Because of the variables in letterpress, I always do test prints. This is where I check how the ink sits on your chosen paper, how deep the impression should be, and whether that gorgeous navy blue looks like you imagined. I might suggest small changes at this point – maybe a different color or paper weight will make the design pop more, for example.
With Amy’s Burns Night coasters, we adjusted the yellow to give a brighter vibe after testing.
I also switched to a higher quality coaster paper to eliminate the cracking under pressure.
The Big Reveal
Now comes the exciting part – watching your design come to life! Each color is printed separately and every piece is printed by hand. I pay careful attention to ink coverage, registration, and that perfect tactile quality that makes letterpress so special. I'll keep you updated throughout the process, sharing photos so you can see how beautifully everything is turning out.
