Custom Letterpress Workshop - Ben and Devon - Sunday, Sept. 7, 10:30-1:30

Private 3-hour hands-on workshop for 2 participants. Includes instruction on letterpress, use of studio equipment, and all materials.

Note: Price for this workshop is $200 for 3 hours plus $25 for expedited shipping for note cards.

Workshop details

In this workshop, Theresa will guide participants in typesetting "The Arps," selecting ink and paper, safely operating the treadle-operated platen letterpress, and printing 25-50 (time dependent) cotton flat note cards (envelopes also included). If time allows, participants can also use the hot foil press to print an ornament, initials, or similar on cards or envelops. Participants will assist with cleaning the press and replacing materials within the workshop timeframe.

Payment terms

Full payment required in advance to secure booking. 

Two weeks notice required for cancellation and full refund minus $25 processing fee. Less than 2 weeks notice: no refund but may reschedule once within 60 days.

Workshop expectations

Letterpress is a traditional craft with inherent variations and imperfections that are part of its authentic character. Results may vary and perfect uniformity is not guaranteed or expected.

Location and parking

Open to Being Letterpress Studio + Shop. 2424 26th Rd S, Arlington, VA 22206. We are located in a neighborhood that offers both paid and free parking. Please allow sufficient time to park and walk to the studio. Open to Being is street level and has a wheelchair-accessible restroom.

What to wear

Wear comfortable clothing and closed toed shoes. If you have an apron or smock, please bring that to cover your clothing. (Studio only has 1 extra apron.)

What to bring

You may bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages; please note we do not have a refrigerator. Alcoholic beverages are  not permitted.

Optional: If you have paper/envelopes you want to ask about or try printing, please bring.

Safety and liability

Participants acknowledge that letterpress involves heavy machinery, sharp tools, and moving parts. Studio carries insurance coverage. Participants agree to follow all safety instructions, use equipment only under direct supervision, and hold harmless the studio and instructor from any injury or damage. By signing, participants assume responsibility for their own safety and attend entirely at their own risk.
